    BRIEF

    East Midlands Development Agency were looking to develop a large network of senior level business volunteers, as a method of securing business involvement in public sector economic strategy to support the economic development of the region.    

    STRATEGY

    It was fundamental to develop a strategy that was founded on research-based intelligence, which elicited the support of a huge range of diverse stakeholders, from business support through to academia. In addition to devising a strategy based on a partnership model, activity spanned branding, all marketing and communications – including media relations, event development, newsletters, e-bulletins, exhibition materials, corporate literature, annual reports, web sites and case histories.    

    OUTPUTS

    500 senior level business volunteers and over £1m of time pledged each year.  Over 2000 public, NGO, charitable and business intermediaries committed.

    Lincolnshire Agricultural Society

    BRIEF

    A communications strategy to drive the Society's activities, including the annual County Show and the EPIC Building - a leading-edge national conferencing centre and major example of sustainable building techniques in action.

    STRATEGY

    A multi pronged approach,.  For the annual County Show, a strategic and focused media relations campaign driving up awareness and significantly increasing visitor numbers. combined with major logistical exercise of managing media in the run up to the Show and for the duration of the event, involving over 200 media.  Managing the media centre during the Show and ensuring interview opportunities were maximised and any crises mitigated by arranging interviews with relevant broadcasting and daily press.  In the run up to the Show all relevant personnel were given media training to help them deal with the media.  For the Conferencing Centre, a campaign directed at regional business users of exhibition and conferencing facilities and nationally through key trade media.

    OUTPUTS

    Media campaign generating hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of media column inches for the Society and the highest visitor numbers ever recorded at the County Show, year on year over a four year period and .

    BIG WINS

    The development of a proposition to attract future funding and sponsorship.     Cambridgeshire Criminal Justice Board

    BRIEF

    Encourage public participation in the justice system for Inside Justice Week on behalf of Cambridgeshire Criminal Justice Board  

    STRATEGY

    Multi-media communications campaign - with film, an online forum, newsletters and ebulletins, promotion to the county's press and radio stations, public meetings and facilitation.  The project involved working with the various representatives of the criminal justice sector bodies which comprise the Board and bringing in other potential stakeholders to deliver the campaign, such as local colleges in difficult to reach areas.  

    OUTPUTS

    Coverage in all key media print and broadcast media, maximum capacity turnout for public events and high volume online interaction for the video, news and forum content.

      A campaign we developed for ourselves, focused on a humorous look at the differences between advertising, marketing and public relations, which ran like this:   At a party... You see a beautiful woman. You go over to her and say “I'm brilliant in bed. Do you fancy spending the night with me?”  

    That's advertising.

    You see another beautiful woman, and send your friend over to her. He says “My friend is brilliant in bed. Do you fancy spending the night with him?”  

    That's marketing.

      Then a third woman approaches you. She says “I hear you're brilliant in bed. Do you fancy spending the night with me?”.  

    That's PR....

      Or rather, that's the result of good PR.....

    Behind bars : Multi-level media relations campaign for corporate film production company

    Brief

    A special initiative to raise awareness of Revival’s innovative approach on a DVD designed to discourage repeat offenders from continuing a life of crime. Reach a key potential market sector – the criminal justice sector – and broader coverage across news, business and trade media at national level and regionally across the company’s home media in Derbyshire and Scotland.

    Solution

    As part of an overall media relations campaign for Revival, we built a high profile press campaign by piggy backing the hot issue of prison overcrowding - vastly increasing our chances of achieving column inches. In addition to key criminal justice journals that we identified, the press campaign covered national broadsheets, regional dailies, regional business magazines and local weeklies. All releases were tailored to ensure maximum relevance for specific audiences. Expansion interview opportunities were secured and full briefing provided for the client. Also a major feature article in a key criminal justice publication was achieved. Film & DVD publications were also used to extend the reach of the story.

    Results

    This single story generated extensive coverage and achieved an equivalent advertising value of £13,363 across Derbyshire and Scotland regional media. 100% key messages on target and reaching a readership of 225,683. Features placed in key journals and trade media including a 3000 word article in Justice of the Peace magazine.

    BRIEF

    The development and delivery of a networking organisation designed to provide an interface between private sector businesswomen and Business Link services to stimulate business development and entrepreneurship amongst women, particularly hard-to-reach groups who did not participate in mainstream business activity or seek mainstream business support.  

    STRATEGY

    Based on an original business women’s network concept we first developed in Nottinghamshire, we went on to create similar award-winning projects in four different counties for Business Links across the East Midlands. Turn-key approach including ongoing management of CRM, full development and management of up to 20 events per annum, combined with a marketing communications programme to stimulate member communications and supported by a media relations campaign.  For each county-based network, an initial scoping phase of research and development was undertaken, creating a co-operative approach with other providers/stakeholders.  For example, in Leicester it was important to elicit support from a diverse range of ethnic groups.  

    OUTPUTS

    Standing room only at each launch event, high numbers of committed and active members for each county, delivery of key messages and an effective conduit for these businesswomen into existing Business Link  services

    Multi-faceted strategy targeting sailing press, other lifestyle media, developing online marketing content, customer newsletters and e-shots, above the line advertising, exhibition material and direct mail.  Developing special initiatives such as training days with Olympic sailors, joint marketing initiatives with complementary lifestyle businesses, Open Days.  

    OUTPUTS

    The mix of above and below the line tactics helped to secure on-target numbers of members in the initial launch phase and ongoing on-target recruitment.

    Develop awareness of the franchise offering from this fast-growing independent estate agency group to stimulate franchisee interest and take-up

    STRATEGY

    Following an initial in depth research and review with all existing franchisees, we developed a core message of sustainable franchising with a support package that is second to none to drive a high profile press and social media campaign to raise awareness of the Newton Fallowell brand in franchise and property-related circles.  An integral part of this was involvement of the existing franchisees, as brand ambassadors, and a thought leadership campaign, profiling the company itself and specific directors as experts in the field, committed to ethical franchising.    Within the network, stimulating awareness of key messages, and drawing together franchisees to support joint marketing activities.

    OUTPUTS

    Regular commentary and case study slots in key franchise media stimulating awareness and driving new levels of franchise enquiries, combined with recorded improvements in internal awareness and take-up of network-wide marketing initiatives.
